WHAT IS RURAL PROOFING?
This is where an organisation takes into account the needs of rural communities in all its plans and activities. Although rural communities have many of the same needs as people living in towns and cities, at times their needs are different or needs to be met in a different way. Many voluntary and community organizations aim to serve whole communities and see rural proofing as part of their commitment to equality. If an organisation serves a community that includes people living in rural areas it is important to think about their specific needs and whether you are meeting them. By meeting their needs you can increase public support for your organisation in rural areas.
